K.L.O.W.N. (Kids Learning Other Ways Naturally)
K.L.O.W.N. is an innovative drug and alcohol prevention and education program for children in third grade in Maine Township schools. Since 1990 the K.L.O.W.N. program has been teaching children about the dangers of substance abuse and how to resist peer pressure. In order to hold the children's attention, MaineStay employees dress in non-threatening clown costumes. These clown facilitators involve students in a discussion about drugs, alcohol, tobacco, peer pressure, and how to achieve natural "highs." This program combines learning and fun to enable children to make responsible decisions as they grow and mature.
