Beautiful Me Group
Our Beautiful Me group is a four-week interactive program designed to give girls the tools they need to feel more confident about themselves, to enhance their self-esteem, and to redefine body image.During the group, we will explore the concepts of self-esteem and body image. We will discuss what both self-esteem and body image mean to each of us individually and how the media influences our definition. The group will focus on the strengths we all posess that make us each beautiful. We will address ways to define our own healthy style, discover how to celebrate our own unique qualities, identify personal values, and learn strategies to cope with stress and peer pressure. Additionally, we will discuss the risks of dieting and review healthy eating and exercise behaviors that are key ingredients for a healthy body weight.
The group curriculum is taken from Healthy Body Image: A Lesson Plan for High School Students, Purdue University; Your Own Healthy Style: A Middle-School Curriculum to Enhance Body Image, A Project of Montana Team Nutrition; and Uniquely Me! The Girl Scout/Dove Self-Esteem Program.
The group is open to girls between the ages of 11-14. The fee for the entire four-week group is $25. Some scholarships are available with proof of need. The next session will meet on Tuesdays from 6-7 PM from March 6 - April 3, 2012 at the Maine Township Town Hall.
