MaineStay Youth & Family Services
C.H.A.M.P.S. (Choosing Healthy Activities Makes Perfect Sense)
C.H.A.M.P.S. is an innovative drug and alcohol prevention and education program for children in third grade in Maine Township schools. Since 1990 the C.H.A.M.P.S. program, previously known as K.L.O.W.N., has been teaching children about the dangers of substance abuse and how to resist peer pressure. In order to effectively engage the students, MaineStay employees use a combination of games, activities, and discussion on the subjects of drugs, alcohol, tobacco, peer pressure, and happiness. Additionally, MaineStay employees wear full baseball and soccer uniforms to the schools. This program combines learning and fun to enable children to make responsible decisions as they grow and mature.
