Road to State Senior Spelling Bee Goes Through Maine Township

The local bee took place June 6, while the regional contest took place on June 23. Two talented winners have been chosen to compete at the state-level during the Illinois State Fair on August 11 in Springfield on Senior Day.

Several different Townships and senior centers that participated in the annual qualifying events at Town Hall, including Berwyn Township, Bloom Township, Cicero Township, Friendship Village of Schaumburg, Frisbie Senior Center, Maine Township, McHenry Township, Stickney Township, Wheeling Park District and Wheeling Township. Maine Township Supervisor Carol Teschky was a Left to right from back: Pronouncer Dr. Kathleen Williams, Superintendent of District 63; Judge Suzanne Barker, District 63 Nurse; Judge Pam Surber, TLC Director; Judge Carol Teschky, Maine Township Supervisor; 3rd Place Winner Lucille Kozanecki; 2nd Place Winner Bob Weiss; and 1st Place Winner of the Local Spelling Bee Mary Stanke judge for the local spelling bee, which was won by Township resident Mary Stanke. Teschky would go on to accompany Stanke to the regional bee in which she placed third. Two talented seniors form Bloom Township Senior Services won the regional bee and the right to compete downstate.
