Road to State Senior Spelling Bee Goes Through Maine Township
July 29, 2008 — The Maine Township MaineStreamers hosted their annual spelling bees this summer at Maine Township Town Hall. The local bee took place June 6, while the regional contest took place on June 23. Two talented winners have been chosen to compete at the state-level during the Illinois State Fair on August 11 in Springfield on Senior Day.Several different Townships and senior centers that participated in the annual qualifying events at Town Hall, including Berwyn Township, Bloom Township, Cicero Township, Friendship Village of Schaumburg, Frisbie Senior Center, Maine Township, McHenry Township, Stickney Township, Wheeling Park District and Wheeling Township. Maine Township Supervisor Carol Teschky was a
judge for the local spelling bee, which was won by Township resident Mary Stanke. Teschky would go on to accompany Stanke to the regional bee in which she placed third.
