Maine Township Initiates Nixle Emergency Preparedness Service
April 15, 2010 — In its continuing effort to better serve residents, Maine Township's Office of Emergency Management (OEM) is launching a new community information service, called Nixle, which is designed to deliver important and timely information using the latest technology. With this implementation, Maine Township joins a growing number of government agencies in offering this approach to sharing community information.
The service, created by Nixle, LLC, delivers trustworthy and important neighborhood-level public safety and community event notifications via the Web, e-mail, and cell phone text messages. Through the Nixle program, the Township can alert residents to pending disasters such as flooding. When the OEM has details on its response, where sand bags or supplies will be located at or what to do for recovery following a flood or other disaster, this information can be delivered without charge to any e-mail address, cell phone or via Web access.
"I encourage all residents to take advantage of this free program," says Township Supervisor Carol A. Teschky. "Residents can go to the Nixle Web site at www.nixle.com and sign up for the free service. The program will be utilized by the Township for periodic testing and emergency information only."
Further information is available by calling the Maine Township OEM at 847-297-5911.
