Maine Township's FISH Needs Drivers

June 4, 2008 — Maine Township's FISH (Friends Indeed Serve & Help) is in need of volunteer drivers. The program has been providing residents with transportation to medical facilities in and near Maine Township since 1971. FISH was created by a group of Maine Township residents who wanted to help their neighbors. Volunteers drive those in need to a wide variety of medical appointments for no charge.

Volunteer drivers can choose how much time they wish to devote. Requirements include a current driver's license and proof of auto insurance. FISH carries supplemental liability insurance as an umbrella policy for its drivers. Also, the benefits are plentiful. As a volunteer, you'll get satisfaction from helping your neighbor and your time will be greatly appreciated.

During the program's nearly 40 years of service, FISH has managed to provide thousands of rides. The program requires that residents in need be mobile, or be able to use a cane or walker. FISH also asks that appointments be set at least a week in advance.

To become a volunteer driver for FISH, call Ed Oken at 847-696-0761. To schedule a ride or for information, please call FISH coordinator Gloria Stepek at 847-297-2510 x283.
